Hackers have allegedly targeted Matthew Perry’s account on X, formerly known as Twitter, intending to commit fraud. A link to make donations to The Matthew Perry Foundation in honor of the late actor, seemingly redirected donors to a copycat site. “We have received reports that Matthew’s official X page has been hacked and is directing users to a fraudulent site soliciting donations via cryptocurrency. Please do not donate to this site or share the fraudulent posts on social media,” wrote the Matthew Perry Foundation in an Instagram post. They urged donors to “report imposter accounts, and do not submit donations through any channel other than MatthewPerryFoundation.org.” The ‘Friends’ star died in October 2023 at the age of 54. It was confirmed in December that his death was due to the “acute effects of ketamine.” Perry was found dead in the hot tub of his home in Los Angeles and was pronounced dead at the scene.
