May the 4th be with you for the 4th annual Star Wars Day

BAY COUNTY, FL. (WMBB) – In a galaxy, not too far away, Downtown Panama City celebrated everything Star Wars earlier Saturday.

May 4th has been designated as Star Wars Day, and Bay County residents showing their galactic pride.

At the Panama City Center of Arts, people had on their Sith robes for the 4th annual Star Wars Day downtown.

There were multiple booths where attendees could make Star Wars-themed crafts, including making their own lightsaber. With their light sabers in hand, they got the chance to duel with Star Wars music performed live courtesy of the Mosley High School band.

“I think it’s a nostalgic piece. Like no matter what age you are, you remember something about Star Wars. It’s got a good message good versus evil, you know? So I just think it’s something that the whole family can get around. I see parents and kids dressing up together,” Bay Arts Alliance Executive Director Jayson Kretzer said.

If dueling light sabers wasn’t enough, there was also a baby Yoda scavenger hunt.

Kretzer says downtown Star Wars Day gets bigger and better every year and he loves seeing the creativity that people put into their costumes.
