May’s full ‘flower moon’ hitting the sky this week

(CNN) – A full moon will be visible this week starting Tuesday night.

The final full moon of the spring is called the “flower moon,” a nod to the flowers that bloom in May in the Northern Hemisphere.

The moon will appear full for about three days, hitting an official peak on Thursday morning.

NASA says there’s also an opportunity to see the full moon near the bright star Antares on Thursday night.

For stargazers in Washington, D.C., the full moon’s brightness will make it difficult to see the star as the moon moves in front of it.

The next full moon will be on June 21. It’s known as the “strawberry moon.”
