Born in Brooklyn, Scotto, 65, has been part of the WNYW-Fox 5 News family since 1986, and has been a solid presence in New York ever since. Per Fox5NY, Scotto began her career at Ted Turner’s WTBS TV station in Atlanta, where she was a reporter on two stations and also an associate producer for the night news.

She headed back to New York City in the 1980s and was a reporter for WABC-TV’s Good Morning New York, the precursor to Live with Regis and Kathie Lee.

Scotto has covered major stories in the tri-state area and has travelled to Israel, Rome and across the US for work. One of her more notable stories was in the 1990s, when Scotto received the tape detailing Woody Allen’s alleged sexual assault involving Dylan, his daughter with Mia Farrow.

“My bosses appreciated my hard work and soon after promoted me to anchor of the 10 o’clock news,” Scotto told Girl Tribe Mag.

Scotto has won four Emmys for her work as an anchor. In 1995, she won the New York State Associated Press First Place Award for her report titled “New York Survival Guide”.

The famous Scotto family restaurant

Rosanna told Dan’s Papers that her mother Marion founded the restaurant Fresco by Scotto with the idea that it could be a family business everyone could participate in. She added that her mum mortgaged the family house in Brooklyn to open the eatery in 1993.

Over the years, the restaurant has become a staple in NYC, with celebrities and politicians regularly dining there. In January, it celebrated its 30th anniversary and hosted A-list guests including actor Tony Danza, Real Housewives stars Melissa and Joe Gorga, journalist Katie Couric and former New York governor Andrew Cuomo, per US media.

Previous famous guests reportedly include former US presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, American broadcaster Wendy Williams, actors Sylvester Stallone and singer Barbra Streisand.

This means that Rosanna often has to balance her day job with her duties concerning the restaurant, which she co-owns with her sister Elaina – the duo being known as the Scotto sisters.

Rosanna also told Dan’s Papers she starts her day at 4.30am to anchor Good Day New York. After the show airs, she does multiple interviews and tries to manage her diary according to the needs of the restaurant. But when a famous customer walks in, everything changes.

“All plans go out the window when my sister informs me that Chris Rock and Kevin Hart are coming to the restaurant on a night I planned to stay at home … I quickly change back into my clothes and head to the restaurant,” she said.

Rosanna is also a mother of two children with her husband Louis Ruggiero. In an interview with Parent Guide News, she said it was a “struggle every day” but she strove for balance nonetheless.

Fresco by Scotto also has strong ties to the local Italian community. Rosanna’s mother Marion and her father Anthony M. Scotto are also known because of Anthony’s alleged ties to the “mob”, per a Curbed report.

According to The New York Times, Anthony was the president of the Brooklyn chapter of the International Longshoremen’s Association. An investigation in 1969 by the Justice Department claimed that he had been identified as a “captain” in the mob family headed by Carlo Gambino.

Anthony spent time in prison for tax evasion and labour racketeering in the 80s, but always maintained his innocence. He was politically connected too, being personally acquainted with Jimmy Carter and Robert F. Kennedy, per the same publication.

In 2021, Rosanna announced his death at age 87, via her Instagram page.
