Michael J. Fox Talks ‘Mind Blowing’ Coldplay Glastonbury Performance

Michael J. Fox had a “f*cking mind blowing” time performing with Coldplay at the 2024 Glastonbury Festival on Saturday.

The actor and Parkinson’s activist played guitar on the band’s hit “Fix You” during the group’s headlining set at the UK music festival last night.

On Instagram Sunday, Fox thanked Coldplay’s team and bandmembers Chris Martin, Will Champion, Johnny Buckland and Guy Berryman as well as manager Phil Harvey.

“There is a time for every band and a band for every time,” Fox wrote alongside a carousel of photos, including one with members of his team and him sitting in a wheelchair in front of an “optimism is a political act” sign. “This is @coldplay’s time.”

Fox also shared a photo of a sign reading “Coldplay special guest” and a short video of the band backstage.

Near the end of the “Fix You” performance, Martin praised Fox, saying, “The main reason we’re in a band is because of watching Back to the Future,” in which Fox’s Marty McFly plays guitar, memorably during the movie’s 1955 school dance scene. “So thank you to our hero forever and one of the most amazing people on Earth, Mr. Michael J. Fox.”

Fox and Coldplay previously joined forces onstage at Metlife Stadium in 2016, with the two performing Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode,” which McFly plays during the dance in the 1985 time-travel movie.

At Glastonbury, during “Fix You,” Martin sang “Go, Johnny, go, go, go” a few times in reference to “Johnny B. Goode.”

Coldplay drew a star-studded audience to their set, with Martin’s fiancee Dakota Johnson and Mission: Impossible stars Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg as well as Gillian Anderson all spotted in the crowd.
