Getty Images for The Recording Academy“Flowers” is the biggest hit of Miley Cyrus’ career when looking at the Billboard charts. However, a different tune ranks as her top track when certifications and sales are the focus. That massive smash just became even bigger ahead of its annual Fourth of July resurgence.
“Party in the U.S.A.” has collected another platinum plaque from the RIAA, the Recording Industry Association of America. According to the organization, which hands out gold, platinum, and even larger certifications when songs and albums hit special consumption milestones, the hit has now shifted 14 million equivalent units in America alone.
Cyrus’ patriotic song is now a 14-times platinum smash. That’s a diamond plaque…plus four more platinum ones added on. The RIAA uses a methodology that combines streams and sales, and both are continually adding to the title’s incredible track record.
In December 2020, “Party in the U.S.A.” advanced from seven-times platinum to diamond status. In doing so, Cyrus earned her first of those honors, which are still relatively rare and highly coveted in the music industry.
It would be three more years before the tune scored additional certifications from the RIAA. In 2023, “Party in the U.S.A.” added three more platinum honors. Now, it’s tacked on another, and it’s surely not done racking up streams and sales.
As “Party in the U.S.A.” moves to 14-times platinum status, another one of Cyrus’ songs collects its first certification. “Who Owns My Heart” is now a gold single, as of the beginning of July 2024. The title served as a single from her album Can’t Be Tamed, which was released in 2010.
Even Cyrus’ former alter ego is getting back in on the fun. Hannah Montana, the character she played on the Disney Channel TV series that launched her to fame, earns a new certification as well. The fake pop star’s “If We Were a Movie” is now a platinum smash, and it adds to Montana’s somehow ever-increasing list of wins from the RIAA.
