Miley Cyrus is beloved by many, but she also keeps her close relationships out of the spotlight and, in fact, doesn’t have many celebrity friends.
The Grammy Award winner appeared in a new interview with David Letterman for his My Next Guest Needs No Introduction series where she revealed why she doesn’t tend to keep friendships with other people within the entertainment industry, per People.
“I am not very active or a very active part of my community of other artists and entertainers and celebrities. It just doesn’t feel like my people when I’m in that room,” she said, adding that there are some people that do find their way into her circle. “But there are certain artists, like Beyoncé — who, like us, we’ve known each other for a long time.”
The “Flowers” singer recently appeared on Bey’s latest album Cowboy Carter for the duet “II Most Wanted,” but the two popular artists go way back. Cyrus recalled the time when she was around 15 years old that she performed with “Queen Bey” in a supergroup for the charity single “Just Stand Up!” at the 2008 Stand Up to Cancer telethon alongside other several other artists and how the “Crazy In Love” singer was “completely stunning” and “so kind” to her.
However, working together on “II Most Wanted” brought them closer together in way.
“Now, just from seeing her, I’ve created, like, a relationship, maybe, a bit more in-depth,” Cyrus said, before addressing Letterman. “We haven’t ever had this conversation, so now maybe you and I may be more friends than I’m friends with Beyoncé, but Beyoncé and I have just the kindness and the consistency of everything.”
She added, “I’m part of my community in that way, but it’s all quantity — not quality. I’m not very active in that.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Cyrus also opened up about how her mother, Tish, is her “hero” as well as the “negative trait” she said she inherited from her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.
