MTV Cancels Europe Music Awards Over Israel-Gaza Conflict | Entertainment

MTV has canceled its Europe Music Awards, which was set to take place on November 5 in Paris, due to concerns about the Israel-Gaza conflict.  The TV network released a statement saying that now is not the time for a party and canceled the event “out of an abundance of caution.” “As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning,” MTV said in a statement.  Although the network did not reference any security threats, it added that the event would cause concern for everyone in attendance.  The statement also confirmed that winning artists will still receive their awards.  Earlier this month, France issued a high alert status after an alleged Islamic State operative killed a school teacher.
