Mysterious metal monolith shows up in Las Vegas after reappearing in Wales

A mysterious metal slab that became something of a pandemic craze has appeared on a Las Vegas hiking trail months after making a return to the public across the pond.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police posted about the structure on social media Monday, saying it was found near Gass Peak. The department urged anyone going to visit the monolith to be mindful of the weather, let someone know about their hiking plans and to stay hydrated.

Similar-looking monoliths have appeared in recent years as these mysterious structures have been spotted around the world since first appearing during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. It first appeared in Utah before similar structures were spotted in places such as California and Romania.

Originally, an anonymous art collective account called The Most Famous Artist took responsibility for the Utah and California installations. But the BBC reported in December 2020 that the account was not responsible for one that appeared in the Isle of Wight.

“The monolith is out of my control at this point,” the account said at the time. “Godspeed to all the aliens working hard around the globe to propagate the myth.”

None of the structures have made headlines in a few years but a monolith made a reappearance in the United Kingdom earlier this year. A structure was seen in Wales in March, according to the BBC.

It’s unclear who is responsible for the new installations.
