Nicole Kidman is missing her mother after her recent death but says she’s “hanging in there” following the family tragedy.
The Practical Magic star is still mourning the loss of her mother Janelle Ann Kidman, who passed away last month at the age of 84. While at the premiere for season two of her TV show Lioness in Los Angeles, the 57-year-old actress told The Hollywood Reporter how much she wished her mom could have been there with her.
“I wish my mama was here. That’d be the one thing I’d say. Everything is great with work but I wish my mama was here,” she said, adding that “it’s been hard” dealing with the loss, calling it a “hard road” but that she’s “hanging in there.”
Kidman previously left the Venice Film Festival early on September 7 after her mother’s death, and was unable to accept the festival’s award for Best Actress.
Halina Reign, director of Kidman’s film Babygirl, read a statement from the actress in memory of her “beautiful, brave mother,” per People.
“[Her mother] shaped me, she guided me and she made me…” the statement read. “The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”
The Moulin Rouge star and her sister Antonia shared a tribute to their late mother on Instagram on September 12 alongside family photos with their mom.
“My sister and I along with our family want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week,” the post read. “Every message we have received from those who love and admired our Mother has meant more to us than we will ever be able to express. Thank you from our whole family for respecting our privacy as we take care of each other.”
