Game Recap: Football |

ATHENS, Ga. – Two third-quarter touchdowns and two fourth-quarter field goals enabled the No. 2-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (9-0, 6-0) to come from behind for a 30-21 victory over the No. 12 Missouri Tigers (7-2, 3-2) 30-21 at Sanford Stadium.

It was Georgia’s 26th consecutive victory, its 24th straight at home and its 10th in a row over Mizzou.

The game was tied 10-10 at halftime, but Missouri got the ball first in the third quarter and moved to a 42-yard field goal by Harrison Mevis that made him Missouri’s all-time leading scorer and gave the Tigers a 13-10 lead. It upped his career point total to 364 – two better than the old mark of 362 held by Jeff Wolfert. On the Tigers’ first two plays of the half, Brady Cook connected with Theo Wease Jr. for 31 yards and Mookie Cooper for 21 on the 59-yard drive.

Georgia retook the lead, 17-13, minutes later with a 15-yard touchdown run to the right by Kendall Milton then widened its lead to 24-13 with :38 left in the third quarter on a five-yard pass to Oscar Delp.

The Tigers responded in a big way, marching 75 yards in nine plays. Cook hit Cooper with an 11-yard pass on a third-and-10, then found Mekhi Miller with a 23-yard completion down to the Georgia 12. From there, Cody Schrader, who was the game’s leading rusher with 22 carries for 112 yards, scooted around left end for a touchdown and Cook found Luther Burden III with a two-point conversion pass to cut the lead to 24-21. It was the sixth straight game with a TD for Schrader.

A 23-yard pass from Beck to Delp moved Georgia into Missouri territory, and a pass interference penalty got the Bulldogs into the red zone, but the Tiger defense stiffened and with 8:59 to play, Peyton Woodring kicked a 30-yard field goal to make the score 27-21.

MU was on the move near midfield when Cook’s short pass intended for Brett Norfleet was intercepted by DT Nazir Stackhouse. The Tiger defense stopped Georgia again before Woodring kicked a 48-yard FG to up the lead to 30-21 with 3:57 left.

Missouri had one last gasp, but a deep pass intended for Wease Jr., who led MU receivers with five catches for 90 yards, was intercepted by Javon Bullard with 1:36 remaining in the game, and the Bulldogs ran out the clock.

Cook completed 14-of-30 passes for 212 yards and ran for 39. He hurt Georgia with his legs in the first half, rushing for more yards (57) than the Georgia team (50), but the Bulldogs adjusted in the second half to neutralize Cook’s running threat.

Georgia took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on a 33-yard FG by Woodring, but Missouri took the lead, 7-3, on a 39-yard Cook-to-Burden touchdown pass. On the 75-yard drive, Cook was 4-for-4 for 53 yards and ran twice for 17. For Burden it was his seventh TD reception of the season.

On the third play of the second quarter, Georgia’s Dominic Lovett took a WR screen to the left for a six-yard touchdown that put the ‘Dogs back on top, 10-7. Georgia converted three third downs on the 70-yard drive.

After an exchange of punts, Missouri tied the score on a 38-yard field goal by Mevis.

Georgia outgained Missouri 385 to 363, in a game that was largely controlled by the two defenses. Georgia had only allowed five QB sacks coming into the game, but Missouri recorded three. Ty’Ron Hopper led MU’s defenders with 10 tackles, including seven solos and one sack. Darius Robinson and Nyles Gaddy had the Tigers’ other two sacks.
