No, Adele Is Not Recording New New Music

The music industry has been accelerating for several years, with top stars feeling the pressure to constantly produce new music. However, one of the bestselling artists ever isn’t playing that game. In fact, she’s taking her time between eras.

In a recent The Hollywood Reporter cover story, Adele was asked about new music, and she wasn’t shy about giving an answer that might not make her fans happy. “I haven’t even thought about it,” the singer stated when asked directly if she’s had time to work on anything in the studio.

Adele continued, explaining that it’s not necessarily that she hasn’t had time to work on new music. Instead, there’s another reason why fans shouldn’t expect anything new from the superstar soon. “I have nothing to say yet,” she answered honestly, admitting that as an artist, she simply doesn’t have anything she feels the need to share.

The Grammy, Oscar, and Emmy winner also revealed that her recent run of concerts may have something to do with the lack of new music. “I get nervous about wearing my voice out [at the residency],” she admitted, confirming that she’s not trying to overextend herself and her gift, likely by going into the studio. “It’s a lot of singing. It’s two hours. It’s all live. It’s a lot,” she added.

Adele has spent the last year performing in Las Vegas at her concert residency, Weekends with Adele, which began in November 2022. She has extended her several times run, and she currently has dates scheduled into summer 2024.

Adele’s last album 30 came out in 2021. Two years may be a long time for some singers, but not her. She has a history of significant breaks between albums—one which she intends on keeping up, it seems. Adele remains a massive star, and fans always rush to support her new music, whenever it arrives and no matter how long it’s been since they last heard from her.
