New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts is accepting applications for a new, entirely online Master of Arts degree in Producing, a flexible, 15-month program that will cover every aspect of producing. Starting in the fall of 2024, students can complete the 32-credit program without moving to New York City.
This is the first fully-online degree offered by NYU Tisch, a center for creative filmmaking since 1965. Guided by acclaimed faculty and industry professionals, students will complete the coursework in seven-week modules that feature a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions. Courses will cover the pitch and development stage, production, post-production, and marketing and distribution. Other topics include fundraising, casting and leadership.
Applications and additional information can be found on the Tisch website. The deadline is Feb. 1, 2024.
The fully-online program will attract students from around the world and meet the needs of students who require flexibility.
“We are excited to invite a new wave of creative producers to cultivate their craft alongside leading industry professionals. Our new program emphasizes a collaborative, flexible approach to bringing film and television projects to fruition and will equip students with a full breadth of producing skills in a modern learning environment,” said Tisch School of the Arts Dean Allyson Green.
The coursework will be presented on Smashcut, a learning platform developed by Tisch alum Daniel Blackman for visual and media arts education.
“An online master’s degree in film and television producing from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts is just the ticket to launch a career in the entertainment business. Classes are conducted through both video lectures and interaction with an NYU professor. Students carve out class time and do homework to fit their schedule. And while students attend classes from the comfort of their own homes, the course offers opportunities for local internships and international film festival visits,” says Associate Professor David K. Irving.
Although the degree is new, Tisch has a long track record for educating producers. Alumni include Breaking Bad’s Vince Gilligan, Insecure’s Melina Matsoukas, Night at the Museum’s Chris Columbus, Nomadland’s Mollye Asher and many more.
