Phoebe Bridgers slammed former Grammys CEO Neil Portnow following Boygenius’ win for Best Rock Performance at the Grammy Awards. In footage from the red carpet following the award show, Bridgers can be heard saying, “I have something to say about women.” “Neil Portnow said that if women want to be nominated and win Grammys that they should step up. He’s also being accused of sexual violence. And to him, I’d like to say, ‘I know you’re not dead yet, but when you are, rot in p***’,” said Bridgers. After the 2018 Grammys, Portnow said that women who want to work in the music industry at an executive level should make themselves known. “I think it has to begin with women who have the creativity in their hearts and their souls who want to be musicians… step up,” he told Variety. This was met with considerable backlash, and singer P!nk called him out, arguing that women have stepped out since “the beginning of time.”
