Plymouth Completes Installation of EV Charging Stations

A project that started three years ago to put electric vehicle charging stations across the city of Plymouth is now fully complete.

A network of 115 EV charging stalls spread across 12 locations is now fully functional and ready to use.

Plymouth officials say the feedback has been positive so far.

“As we’ve been coming online, users have been having a good experience on all of them,” said Amy Hanson, the city’s fleet and facilities manager.

Material shortages and shipping delays contributed to the lengthy installation process.

A partnership with Xcel Energy and Carbon Solutions, an environmental consulting firm, covered the installation costs at no cost to taxpayers. Customers who charge their vehicles at the various stations do pay a fee for their use.

Officials hope the charging stations will also bring more visitors to the Plymouth area.

“We would like to think so, that people would want to come because of all of the services that we
provide,” said Hanson.

To use the charging stations, customers follow a few simple steps: 1) download the DirtRoad EV app, 2) select your location, 3) enter the charging station name, and 4) plug the charger into your vehicle.

“At the end, hit stop charge, put the cord right back up, and you are electrified and on your way,” said Hanson.
