Quarterback Hudson Card, a transfer from Texas, completed 17-of-30 passes for 254 yards and 2 touchdowns to Deion Burks (4 catches, 152 yards). Devin Mockobee gained 60 yards and scored a TD for the Boilermakers. Tyrone Tracy Jr. had 2 touchdowns (1 rushing, 1 kickoff return).

A few hard first-down conversion runs by Hudson Card and Devin Mockebee, plus a 22-yard run by Tyrone Tracy got the Boilers down deep inside Virginia Tech territory. An improvised third-down pass to Mockobee from Card gave Purdue a 1st-and-goal, and Card capped it with a 2-yard rushing score. Purdue 24, Virginia Tech 17.

The Boilermakers looked great coming out of the long delay. But then Virginia Tech started clicking on offense and moved the ball well to end the half.
Hudson Card threw for 136 yards (15 for 21) in the first half. Devin Mockobee ran for 33 yards on 9 attempts. Max Klare led the receivers with 5 receptions for 48 yards.
On defense, Dillon Thieneman led the way with 5 total tackles. Isaiah Nichols had a sack for the Boilers.

Welp, there goes Purdue’s 17-point lead. The Hokies really turned it on in the last few minutes of the second half. Starting at their own 30-yard line, Virginia Tech marched down the field to tie things up with a 2-yard touchdown pass from Grant Wells to Jaylin Lane.

The Hokies have a lot of momentum now. After Hudson Card was stopped on 4th and 1, Virginia Tech had one play where it gained yards (a 15-yard pass). But that didn’t stop the Hokies from scoring. Kicker John Love hit a 41-yard field goal to cut the lead the a one-possession game.

On their own 34-yard line, the Boilermakers went for it on 4th and 1. Hudson Card ran for it but was stopped short.

That didn’t take long. In less than a minute of game time, Purdue has scored again. After Cam Allen’s interception, the Boilermakers needed just two plays to score. Tyrone Tracy, who had a touchdown in Week 1, ran in a 21-yard touchdown.

Virginia Tech’s Grant Wells looked left and threw to a receiver, but it was picked off by Cam Allen, who is a Virginia native. Allen’s interception is his 11th at Purdue, which is tied for third on the all-time list.

Purdue kicker Ben Freehill nailed a 43-yard field goal after the Boilermaker offense stalled coming out of the first quarter.

Longest opening quarter… ever. All kidding aside, Purdue drove into Hokie territory and is on the 29-yard line after a Devin Mockobee 10-yard run.

And we’re back. Purdue ended up punting on its second drive of the game coming out of the delay. Virginia Tech then took over but the Boilermaker defense forced a punt. There’s a little more than 2 minutes left in the opening quarter.

The game is set to resume at 6:15 p.m. But it won’t be on ESPN2, like it was when it first started at 12 p.m. today.

Purdue football kickoff at Virginia Tech delayed due to weather
About 30 minutes before Purdue football was scheduled to kick off against Virginia Tech on Saturday, Lane Stadium was evacuated.
Fans were advised to seek shelter in the concourse due to severe weather approaching.
A press box announcement said lightning was in the area and the start of the game will be delayed. The new kickoff time is 12:15 p.m. EDT.
