Reed Sheppard shines in NBA Summer League debut


LAS VEGAS, Nv. (WYMT) – Reed Sheppard put up some impressive numbers in his first NBA Summer League game.

Behind a team-leading 23 point performance from the North Laurel product, the Rockets beat the Lakers 99 to 80.

Sheppard ended the game with 23 points, shooting 4-6 from beyond the arc. He also added four rebounds, five assists, one steal and three blocks.

On the first possession of the game, Sheppard displayed unselfish play by finding Cam Whitmore for his first assist of the game.

Sheppard scored his first points with a three-point jumper in the first quarter.

Sheppard ended the first quarter with three points and two assists.

Sheppard added a block and another three point bucket to his stat line in the second quarter.

A made technical free throw gave the North Laurel product seven points in the first half.

Sheppard ended the first half with seven points, one rebound, three assists and two blocks.

Sheppard opened the second half with a steal.

Sheppard added his fourth three-pointer of the night from 29 feet out to add to his scoring total.

The Rockets extended their lead 80-61 after three quarters of play.

Sheppard dominated the third quarter, adding 12 points, one rebound and one steal to his stat line.

The 2024 Southeastern Conference player of the year, Dalton Knecht, finished his NBA Summer League debut with a game-high 25 points. Knecht also had six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.
