Ronit Roy is one of the most talented actors in the entertainment industry. The actor made his debut with the film, Jaan in 1992. However, despite having a bang-on debut, he saw a downfall in his career in the 90s. Only after he joined the popular TV serial, Kausautii Zindagi Kay in 2002 did he achieve immense success and become a household name. Later, Ronit worked in several films and TV serials like Adaalat, Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain, Jaane Tere Naam, Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar, Bloddy Daddy, Kaabil, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and many more.

In an interview with Lehren Retro, Ronit Roy opened up about his struggle with alcohol. Talking about the same, the actor recalled the time when he used to go on sets after a night of drinking. The actor mentioned that he didn’t value his success and thought that the golden period of his life would never end. In his words:

“I didn’t understand success. I became a hero, and I never thought it would end. When you are drinking, you make a host of other mistakes.”

Further, in the same interview, Ronit said that though he never went late on the sets, he would arrive for shoots being sleep-deprived because of drinking. Mentioning that it is an actor’s responsibility to look good on the screen as people don’t visit theatres to watch bulging eyes, he said:

“One mistake I never made is that I have never been late for a shoot but, despite reaching on time, I didn’t have any faculties around me because I would be drinking four hours before the shoot. I didn’t sleep, and my eyes would be bulging. You are not supposed to look like that. There is a responsibility on you. People come to theatres to watch you, and you have to give back to them.”

Ronit reveals what made him quit drinking

Ronit also revealed what made him quit drinking. Sharing his fear of not being able to help his loved ones because of his habit of drinking, the actor stated that he has this phobia of losing his family members. Elaborating more about it, Ronit said:

“Another thing is that you have kids and wife at home, and I have this phobia inside me. My daughter is studying in Los Angeles. I have this phobia that what if something happens in that night to anybody, to my family or my close friends, and I get a call from somebody who is reaching out for help, and I am not able to react because I am under the influence of alcohol. I don’t want that to happen.”

Ronit once penned a note about self-love

On September 27, 2023, Ronit dropped two pictures on his IG handle. The first picture was a throwback from his younger days, while the second one was from the recent time. Sharing the picture, the actor mentioned that he is proud of himself for how far he has come in his life. From being a teenager with no clue about the future to facing every challenge in life, Ronit stated that he has built a beautiful life for himself.
