While accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Reality Competition, RuPaul called out the backlash surrounding drag artists readings at local libraries. The Queen of Drag highlighted the number of “beautiful” drag queens the show has produced, then used his platform to speak about current issues. “If a drag queen wants to read you a story at a library, listen to her because knowledge is power and if someone tries to restrict your access to power, they are trying to scare you,” said RuPaul. RuPaul is not the only one speaking their mind on the issue; famous drag queen Mrs. Kasha Davis encouraged her audience to be inclusive. “If you happen to see somebody different in the world, treat them with kindness. It’s about kindness, it’s about inclusivity, it’s about community, it’s about celebrating who you are without abandon,” said Mrs. Kasha Davis. This marks the fifth time that ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ has won the Reality Competition category at the Emmys.
