NEW YORK, NY – On Sunday, January 21 at 9pm Eastern Time, Hallmark’s “The Way Home” returns to TV screens for its second season.
Season One introduced viewers to the multigenerational family comprised of three headstrong and willful women, each with their own enigmatic relationship issues. As one of the first season’s primary points of tension, the disappearance of Kat’s eight-year-old brother Jacob (Remy Smith) sets the tone for the start of the second season.
Within the first few minutes of Season Two, Alice reveals to Kat that she knows what has happened to her son and eagerly seeks to put her theory to the test. Visiting the pond that Jacob is surmised to have disappeared in, mother and daughter undergo a series of revelations that bring them one step closer to understanding his sudden and inexplicable disappearance.
While Alice and Kat attempt to come to terms with their familial trauma, another character from their past also emerges – Elliot, Kat’s childhood friend who Alice begrudgingly engages with at her goodbye party.
Sensing unresolved tension between the two, Alice correctly assumes that something happened between her mother and Elliot. After seeing her mother’s reaction, she becomes conflicted over how to feel, affecting her ability to be present at a later bonfire goodbye party. In spite of this, the mother-daughter bond remains as strong as ever when they unite once again to look for Jacob by diving into the pond, this time with severely different consequences.
The episode consists of several flashbacks, reminding viewers of key moments from Season 1, and foreshadowing how this season will resolve some, all, or none of them.
To celebrate the premiere of the second season, several members of the cast and crew gathered at the Whitby Hotel in New York. Four members of the cast (Andie MacDowell, Chyler Leigh, Evan Williams, and Sadie Laflamme-Snow) answered questions at a panel following the screening of the episode.
