Several women honored for their accomplishments at the Georgia State Capitol

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Several women were recognized and honored for their accomplishments at the Georgia State Capitol on Tuesday.

Lawmakers took a moment to thank the five University of Georgia students who helped a family during a car accident earlier this month. The women received a standing ovation and a resolution commending their selfless actions.

The students were driving to Savannah when they saw an SUV roll into a creek. They helped pull a mother and her children out of the car as it sank.

It was also Influential Women of Georgia Day and seven women in entertainment were recognized, including Kandi Burruss, co-founder of Grammy-winning group Xscape and other philanthropists and entrepreneurs.

Georgia Rep. Dexter Sharper said with Georgia growing as the leading film, television and entertainment industry capital, it attracts thousands of people who are inspired by the work those women do.
