Shorter albums are becoming the new norm! Artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Charli XCX are leading the charge with bite-sized albums that still hit hard. Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet” is just 36 minutes long, while Charli XCX’s “brat” runs at 41 minutes. So, why shift toward short albums? Experts say it’s all about adapting to today’s fast-paced world.
David Nathan, a former VP of Republic Records, believes it’s all about quality over quantity. In an era where listeners are constantly bombarded with content, shorter albums are easier to digest. In consequence, fans are more likely to listen to concise projects as a whole, increasing the chances of them enjoying them from top to bottom.
“Music consumption has changed drastically since. Listeners are favoring more digestible content and consuming it very quickly,” he said.
However, this year has seen artists like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, or Post Malone continue to release longer albums, proving that there are still audiences that are willing to stay for their juicy stories. Still, the trend toward shorter releases is undeniable. It’s all about grabbing attention fast in a world where listeners can barely keep up with all the content they are shown.
