Suzanne Shepherd, best known for her roles in ‘The Sopranos’ and ‘Goodfellas’, has died aged 89. “Celebrated actress, director, and legendary acting teacher and private coach passed away peacefully in her home in New York City in the early morning hours…”, said Shepherd’s agent Sarah Fargo in a statement. Fargo also added that “a memorial service will be announced early in the new year.” Shepherd starred as Mary DeAngelis, mother of Carmela Soprano (Edie Falco), in the HBO series ‘The Sopranos’ from 2000 to 2007. Before the series, Shepherd made her on-screen debut in the 1998 rom-com ‘Mystic Plaza’ starring Julia Roberts. According to IMDB, her last role was in the movie ‘The Performance’, which is based on an American-Jewish tap dancer in the 1930s. Outside of acting, Shepherd directed in numerous theaters and worked as an acting coach.
