Stephen A. Carter – Sent-trib


Stephen A. Carter, 66, of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family after a heroic battle with cancer on December 28, 2023.

Stephen was born on August 11, 1957 in Toledo, Ohio to Joan Bevelhymer and Andrew Mulligan (both deceased).

Stephen served 6 years in the United States Air Force, where he made his closest, lifelong friends.

He was honored with the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon, Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon.

He then moved to Los Angeles, California where he gradated from Columbia College Hollywood with a A.A. in Television Production and a B.A. in Cinema.

Stephen spent the next 30 years of his life in Los Angeles, CA., working in the film and music industry extensively in the USA and also filmed in Russia, Japan, Australia and Mexico. He had also written over a dozen screenplays.

One of his screenplays, Germ Line: Revolution, Evolution is History, he turned into a book, which he finished and published while he was battling cancer.

Stephen also was a 1995 Winner of a CMA Award as the Producer of the Garth Brooks video, Red Stroke.

Throughout his career, Stephen had many roles in the film & music industry, including Director, Head of Production, Producer, Assistant Director, Production Manager and was also Co-Founder and Head of Production for his own company in L.A., California.

In 2010 he moved back home to Ohio where he built his ideal life with his wife Sherila and his faithful companion, Romeo (deceased in 2022).

Stephen was a Director & Producer for Time Warner Cable for 7 years, a Kitchen Design Specialist with Lowe’s for a short time where he was able to design he and Sherila’s dream kitchen. He planned to retire from WTOL in Toledo where he was a Marketing Producer.

Being with his beautiful wife and family were not only his favorite things to do, but the most important to him.

Stephen loved spending his time writing, taking photos, playing guitar, camping, reading, watching and attending Cleveland Browns football games, talking politics, relaxing & hanging out in the screen room at home, listening to music and working in the yard to ensure it was always pristine. He loved being in the kitchen, cooking, making his famous spaghetti sauce or whipping up one of his infamous cheesecakes.

Left to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Sherila (Sanner); Daughters Geri (Randy Hayes) and Stephanie; Son, Stephen; and Sister, Sheri. Grandchildren Chaz, Nazareth, JJ (Jessica), Rachelle (Josh) and Andrew; Great-Granddaughters Reese, Acadia and Cecilia. Brother and Sister-in-law; Randy & Carol Sanner, Niece Julie (Jimmy Pooler), Great-Niece; Eleanor and Great-Nephew; Louis.

He was preceded in death by his Brother-in-Law Robert O. Sanner and his Nephew, Ryan Sanner.

Friends and Family will gather to celebrate Stephen’s life’s accomplishments on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at the Macomber Lodge, 4701 Navarre Ave., Oregon, Ohio from 11 am – 5 pm.

To honor Stephen, there will Military Honors starting promptly at 11 am.
