FilmMagicStray Kids are getting ready to kick off their next chapter. The group has a single with Charlie Puth coming later this month, which might propel them back to the charts in a major way and help them reach new audiences. Ahead of that drop, the South Korean boy band has earned a very special honor–one that helps them match a showing only accomplished by one other all-male vocal troupe from their home country.
“Maniac,” one of Stray Kids’ recent singles, has been certified gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). Songs go gold in the U.S. after moving 500,000 equivalent units, between pure sales and streaming equivalents.
Stray Kids instantly double their total number of gold singles in the U.S. as “Maniac” earns its first certification. This past October, the group collected their first of these wins when “God’s Menu” went gold.
With this new certification, it appears that Stray Kids have become only the second South Korean boy band to land more than one gold single in America. They join BTS in this feat, and they’re sure to be joined by other names in the future…though it may be quite a while before anyone matches this performance.
BTS has thus far seen 10 songs go gold. Six of those have advanced to at least platinum status. A handful have even been certified several-times platinum. Their smash “Dynamite” stands as their most-certified track, as it’s gone triple platinum.
Stray Kids count two gold singles and two gold albums in their discography. Earlier this year, their recent project Rock-Star was named a gold hit in the U.S. Last year, they collected their first of these honors when 5-Star went gold. The group has yet to see any title move up to platinum, but that is likely going to happen for them one day.
