The S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University invites applications for an open-rank, full-time faculty position (tenure-track, professor of practice or teaching professor, depending on your qualifications and interests) in the Bandier Program for Recording and Entertainment Industries, to start in Fall of 2024.

The successful candidate will teach classes on the modern music industry, ideally with particular focus on the industry’s cutting-edge digital aspects, such as streaming, data, AI, and social media marketing.

Ideal candidates will have significant professional experience in the contemporary, digital music business, and/or a significant and relevant research and teaching background. Candidates should also demonstrate:

  • track record of or potential to be an excellent teacher
  • track record of or potential to be a thought leader in the field of the digital music industry
  • communication skills and cross-cultural abilities with diverse groups of students, colleagues and community members.

A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s degree or higher is preferred.

Being a problem solver and good team player is a must as the strength of the school lies in interconnectedness of faculty skills and agendas—from entrepreneurship to marketing to data expertise—and the ability to collaborate with thought-leaders from other schools within the university.

Candidates must demonstrate the potential to bring national visibility to the School through academic, creative or professional engagement.

The School expects a variety of service duties, including: academic and career advising of undergraduate and graduate students; school and university committee service; and community engagement.

This faculty member will teach five classes in an academic year (3/2 load) and help to set the direction of our curriculum.
