Television City offers training as part of Changing Lenses initiative for students

Television City hosted its first Illumination Training of 2024 last week with Ghetto Film School, an award-winning nonprofit founded in 2000 to educate, develop and celebrate the next generation of great storytellers.

With locations in New York City, Los Angeles and London, Ghetto Film School equips students for top universities and careers in the creative industries through an introductory education program for high school students and early career support for alumni and young professionals.

“It was encouraging to see young people immediately take to our lighting and grip training,” said Irene Phan, senior vice president of global ops and finance for The MBS Group and creator of Illumination Training. “It is our intention that these trainings educate attendees not just on the skills they’ll acquire but the pathways needed to attain lasting careers within our industry.”

The training is part of Television City’s Changing Lenses initiative, which promotes diversity, equity and inclusion in the entertainment industry. Through partnerships with organizations, industry leaders and community stakeholders, Changing Lenses provides mentorship opportunities, below-the-line job training programs and career pathways to sustained employment for historically underrepresented voices in media.
