Celine Dion Makes Surprise Appearance at the 2024 Grammys

Céline Dion has only recently returned to the spotlight after three and a half years after being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, which is a rare and incurable neurological disease that can cause debilitating muscle spasms and affects the central nervous system, specifically the brain and spinal cord. And now, she’s back on the Grammys stage.

Dion presented the album of the year award, and received a standing ovation when she walked out.

“When I say that I’m happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart,” said Dion. She added, “Those who have been blessed enough here at the Grammy Awards must never take for granted the tremendous love and joy that music brings to our lives and to people all around the world.”

Billy Joel Performs His New Single

The piano man is out of songwriting retirement!

Billy Joel sang his first new single in 17 years, “Turn the Lights Back On,” at the Grammys on Sunday. Joel, of course, had previously insisted that he was done with songwriting altogether shortly after the release of his 1993 album River of Dreams.

The five-time Grammy winner dropped the new song just a few days ago.

“On My Mama” singer Victoria Monét was honored as the best new artist at the 2024 Grammy Awards, and used her acceptance speech to reflect on her journey in Hollywood.

Monét, who was nominated in seven categories at the 66th Grammys, also delivered a message to “everybody who has a dream.” Said Monét, “I want you to look at this as an example . . . this award was a 15-year pursuit.”


Brandy and 21 Savage Join Burna Boy for “Sittin’ on Top of the World” Performance

Joni Mitchell Performs “Both Sides, Now” at the Grammys

Fifty-five years after its first release, Joni Mitchell performed her emotional ballad “Both Sides, Now” at the Grammys while accompanied by Brandi Carlile and other instrumentalists.

Mitchell, wearing her signature braids, sang while seated in an ornate chair with the other musicians seated similarly in a semi-circle around her. Fallen chandeliers lit the stage as Mitchell performed.

At the conclusion of the performance, Mitchell was delivered her Grammy for best folk album — which she was awarded during the preshow — by host Trevor Noah.


Billie Eilish Wins Song of the Year for “What Was I Made For?”

Billie Eilish was in shock as she accepted song of the year for her Barbie soundtrack offering, “What Was I Made For?”

“That was a crazy list of incredible people … incredible music,” Eilish said as she took the stage with her brother Finneas. “I’m shocked out of my balls.”

Eilish sweetly thanked Finneas, before honoring Barbie director Greta Gerwig for “making the best movie of the year.”


Blue Ivy Takes the Stage with Dad JAY-Z to Accept Dr. Dre Global Impact Award

JAY-Z accepted the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award during Sunday’s show, and had his daughter Blue Ivy by his side for his big moment.

During the acceptance speech, JAY-Z called out the Grammys for past snubs of his wife Beyoncé’s music.

“She has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year – that doesn’t work,” said the rapper, adding, “When I get nervous, I tell the truth.”

Ultimately, JAY-Z said he was “honored” to accept the award and challenged viewers to “keep showing up . . . until they give you all those accolades you feel you deserve.”



Stevie Wonder, Fantasia Barrino, Annie Lennox and Jon Batiste Perform During In Memoriam

Stevie Wonder paid tribute to the late Tony Bennett in an emotional duet to “For Once in My Life,” done with Wonder singing live alongside video footage of Bennett. Bennett died at age 96 in July 2023.

Wonder then continued to perform for the Grammys In Memoriam segment. He segued into “The Best Is Yet to Come” before the lights faded out and Annie Lennox appeared onstage to sing “Nothing Compares 2 U” in tribute to the late Sinéad O’Connor.

As Lennox sang, photos of more of the artists we lost in 2023 and early 2024 appeared on the screen.

Lenny Kravitz then stepped out to honor “trusted mentor and believer” Clarence Avant, a renowned music executive. Kravitz introduced Jon Batiste, who sang two of Bill Withers’ iconic songs: “Lean on Me” and “Ain’t No Sunshine.”

The In Memoriam celebrations continued with an appearance by Oprah Winfrey, who honored “our forever goddess of rock and roll” Tina Turner. Said Winfrey: “She was a special kind of role model.”

Fantasia Barrino appeared dressed in full Turner garb — a sequined, glittering fringe dress and sparkly booties — to sing “Proud Mary.”

The performance had much of the audience on their feet, including Taylor Swift, and earned rave applause.

Swift’s applause is notable, of course, because Rodrigo had to previously address fan speculation that the track was about the “Anti-Hero” singer. “I was very surprised when people thought that,” Rodrigo said in a 2023 interview.


SZA Accepts Best R&B Song, Says “You Don’t Really Understand, I Came Really, Really Far”

Trevor Noah Is Hosting the “Only Concert That Starts on Time”

After Dua Lipa’s opening performance, host Trevor Noah hit the Crypto.com Arena floor and gave a fun run-of-show and highlighted some of the star power in attendance on Sunday — including Meryl Streep (yes, really!).

Noah — in his fourth Grammys hosting gig — teased that the show was the “only concert that starts on time” and that his goal was to keep the “vibes” going.

The comedian shared live commentary about some of the musicians present, and even chatted about Taylor Swift as she entered the room and walked to her seat.

“Are you seeing what’s happening right now as Taylor Swift moves through the room? The local economy around those tables improves,” he joked. “Can you see you get this magic right now? Look at this magic. Lionel Richie. Now Lionel Wealthy.”

Noah also spoke about the backlash Swift has dealt with from some NFL fans who are vocal about her appearances at boyfriend Travis Kelce’s games. “Tonight on Taylor’s behalf ,you know what I’m gonna do?” said Noah. “Every time they mention Taylor Swift, I’m gonna get revenge. Every time someone says Taylor Swift. I’m going to cut the cameras to someone who plays football.”

Keltie Knight’s Ring Saga Is Over

E! News correspondent and Lady Gang podcast host Keltie Knight made headlines last month when she lost the diamond stone from her 10-year anniversary ring on the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet.

But there’s a new update to “Diamondgate.” While, no, Knight didn’t find the original stone, fine jewelry brand With Clarity reached out and offered to replace the television personality’s ring “immediately.”

Knight worked closely with the jeweler on customizing her Medi Classic four prong solitaire diamond engagement ring. She opted for a 14K yellow gold design featuring a 5-carat princess diamond — an upgrade.

And on Sunday night, she got to show off the new bling on the carpet (and hopefully, will make it home with the stone in tact this time).
