Local leaders will pair up with professional dancers to perform dynamic dance numbers for a good cause.
On Nov. 17, the 14th Annual Stars of New York Dance competition returns to the Brooklyn borough to once again showcase prolific performances courtesy of local dancers and celebs.
Taking place at The Theater at City Tech, this year’s thrilling dance contest has gathered a who’s who of New York-based leaders (“The Stars”), who will take to the stage with professional dance partners to show off their moves for a good cause.
Together, the participants will collectively perform a wide array of jaw-dropping dance styles — including hip-hop, ballet and salsa, to name a few — in front of a live audience, who will have the esteemed responsibility of deciding the winning pair via a vote.
The couple that reigns supreme on the dancefloor will receive $10,000, which will go towards providing 10 children from the winning professional dance partner’s organization with scholarship awards.
Additionally, the other participating Brooklyn dance organizations will also receive a $1,000 dance scholarship award — which means everyone comes away a winner!
This year’s roster of “Stars” that will be gracing the stage at the upcoming event includes Larry Blackmon (CEO of The Blackmon Organization), Monique Chandler-Waterman (NYS assembly member), Ted Crawford (life coach and real estate investor), Nicole Duncan-Smith (president and CEO of Sunday School Dropout), Benita Miller (executive director of Powerful Families, Powerful Communities), and Marc Morial (president and CEO of National Urban League).
Returning as host of this year’s competition is Errol Louis of Spectrum News NY1-acclaim, who will honor West African Dance Educator Mama Wilhelmina Taylor and Theatrical Director Jesse Wooden, Jr. with Stellar Legend of the Arts awards.
Whether you are a lover of dance, or simply just seeking a fun night of entertainment, this is a dance-off that you definitely do not want to miss!
