The Weeknd Makes History As Two Of His Biggest Hits Are Certified Diamond

The Weeknd has yet another reason to celebrate today (June 20), as two of his biggest singles have been certified diamond. The new wins add to his growing list of tunes that have reached that threshold, which is often considered the most impressive and important in the American music industry.

Both “Die For You” and “Save Your Tears” have been awarded diamond certifications by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). Songs and albums earn that honor once the organization confirms that they have shifted at least 10 million equivalent units, between pure sales and streaming activity.

Including his pair of new smashes, The Weeknd now claims seven diamond-certified singles. Two of his hits have even pushed past that number, as both “The Hills” and “Starboy” have been certified as 11-times platinum for moving 11 million units.

Three of The Weeknd’s most successful singles collected their diamond plaques some time ago, as he’s been earning this distinction for years. “Earned It,” “Blinding Lights,” and “Can’t Feel My Face” are all steady with their 10 million units moved, at least for the time being. That number will surely increase sometime soon.

Currently, Post Malone claims the most diamond-certified singles in U.S. history, with nine. Rihanna recently advanced to the list of the musicians with the most of these honors, as she now also claims seven.

Interestingly, The Weeknd is alone in his new wins. Both tunes were initially released as solo affairs, but in order to help them advance up the charts, the Canadian R&B and pop musician teamed up with Ariana Grande to make them bigger deals. Grande isn’t credited on either of these wins, even though her version played a major role in securing the Grammy champion his new smashes.
