U.S. Rep. Grothman: Statement on Censure Resolution of Rashida Tlaib

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Glenn Grothman (WI-06) issued the following statement on his vote to table the censure resolution of Representative Rashida Tlaib (D-MI):

“I have consistently criticized Rashida Tlaib’s radical left-wing ideology including her bizarre support for Hamas and similar groups in the Middle East,” said Grothman. “However, I disagree with the tendency in recent years to censure, remove from committees, or expel people for their outlandish statements made outside of their official capacity as a Member of Congress. If the people of Michigan want to vote for a progressive, anti-Israel fanatic, that is their right. I was prepared to oppose all three resolutions that were brought to the Floor yesterday: two for censure and one for removing a Congressman.

“I remain committed to condemning Tlaib and speaking out against her and others who share her mindset. It is particularly disturbing to see so many young people at anti-Israel marches across the country. Whether it be offensive information put out through the education establishment or just bias in the left-wing media, it must be confronted. At this moment, I am working to strengthen our immigration process by vetting immigrants, legal or illegal, to ensure we do not empower people like Tlaib in the United States and their influence on American policy.

“I will continue to utilize my platform to inform the American public about Israel, the most westernized state in the Middle East. I use my role to highlight the positive impact of Israel in the Middle East, not only on the Jewish population but also on the Palestinians who, when given the choice, would often prefer to reside in a country like Israel than in a newly established Palestinian state. I look forward to continuing to defend Israel and exposing Rashida Tlaib and her bizarre rhetoric.”
