Union Berlin – Real Madrid summary: score, goals & highlights | Champions League

Is Carlo being too risky today?

The Italian coach very rarely gets criticised at Real Madrid for his team selection, but when he does, it’s usually about one thing: rotation.

Ancelotti has gone with what is, given the injuries, an almost full-strength starting XI, with key players such as Bellingham, Rodrygo, Alaba and Kroos all starting.

My question is simple: are these players needed on a day like today?

Real Madrid are through, they’re playing against the bottom team in the group and the calendar is relentless around this time of year.

I don’t want to tempt fate, but an injury today to an important player would be catastrophic… and entirely avoidable.
