Usher Is The First Independent Artist To Headline The Super Bowl

Usher is set to be the first independent artist to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show. The singer, 45, reflected on his journey at a press conference with 2024’s Super Bowl performers, Post Malone, Andra Day and Reba McEntire. Usher spoke about his successful Las Vegas residency, his new album and how it ties into his halftime performance. “This is only the beginning because I launched this album as an independent artist. I will be, up until this date, the only independent artist who’s ever performed the Super Bowl halftime show. So this is a beginning. This is a new beginning for me,” Usher explained. His performance has been labeled by the NFL as “30 years in the making,” given the singer’s illustrious career. The singer’s achievement comes just weeks after Meghan Thee Stallion became the first independent artist to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
