Vail Health in partnership with Surf Synergy is launching new weeklong retreats in Costa Rica to promote longevity and wellness. The retreats will blend medical research with actionable self-care strategies, offering evidence-based solutions for health and wellness.
The first Longevity and Wellness Retreat will take place from Oct. 19 to Oct. 26, followed by a second women’s-specific wellness retreat from Oct. 26 to Nov. 2. The retreats will be led by experts in wellness, physical fitness, nutrition, behavioral health, and getting the most out of life. The Longevity and Wellness Retreat will incorporate optional surfing or SUP lessons, waterfall hikes and other wellness activities.
“Costa Rica is one of five areas of the world where people live extraordinarily long and vibrant lives. Locals have adopted ‘La Pura Vida’ to describe a simple, pure, optimistic, happy, and fulfilling life,” said Chris Lindley, Vail Health’s chief population health officer and executive director of behavioral health. “With an ideal mindset and backdrop, Costa Rica is the perfect spot for embarking on a new life adventure. We want people to discover their full potential as they immerse themselves in this transformative experience.”
Participants will enjoy daily workshops from experts including author Aaron Bare, Vail Health’s Dr. Barry Sandler, a wellness and longevity physician, Lindley, Vail Health Functional Medicine Dr. Eliza Klearman, and Family Nurse Practitioner Kyler Hijmans.
“The partnership between Vail Health and Surf Synergy brings together the best of surfing, wellness, nutrition, and functional health, as well as the latest leading-edge, evidence-based research on longevity and what we can do to prolong our health span,” Lindley said.

Dr. Klearman and Hijmans will lead the women’s specific retreat to help women discover tips to live healthier and more vibrant lives as well as connect with other like-minded individuals.
“Surf Synergy’s model is for a transformative surf and wellness experience for all of our guests,” said Surf Synergy co-founder Rich Naha. “The Longevity and Wellness Retreats take this experience to a new level with all the resources and expertise of Vail Health.”
Surf Synergy recently opened Casa De Cielo, which accommodates 24 guests and has amenities such as an infinity pool, and game room.
The retreat is designed for both individuals and small groups, and participants are encouraged to bring friends or family members. It will include one-on-one coaching, group sessions with thought leaders and a selection of evidence-based wellness activities.
Every guest at the Longevity and Wellness Retreat receives a comprehensive medical diagnostic assessment and an individually tailored program designed to support their long-term optimal health.
“Longevity is not just about living longer, but about living better. It’s about embracing a healthy lifestyle and finding joy in the journey,” Lindley said. “After all, what good is a long life if it’s not filled with happiness and purpose?”
