Reid Scott is set for a series regular role in Season 23 of “Law & Order,” Variety has learned.
Exact details on the character Scott will be playing are being kept under wraps, aside from the fact he will be portraying an NYPD detective.
The news comes a week after it was announced that Jeffrey Donovan would not be back for the new season of the long-running (and recently revived) procedural. Donovan began portraying Det. Frank Cosgrove on the show when it returned for Season 21 in 2022.
Scott is best known for playing Dan Egan in the hit HBO political comedy series “Veep,” on which he starred throughout the show’s seven season run at the premium cabler. His other recent TV credits include “American Horror Stories,” “The Afterparty,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm, and two seasons on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” On the film side, he starred in and executive produced the pandemic comedy “Who Invited Charlie,” and has starred in other features like “Venom” and its sequel, “Wildflower,” “The Veil,” and “Late Night.”
He is repped by Gersh, Impression Entertainment, and Goodman Genow.
“Law & Order” Season 23, which is produced by Universal Television in association with Wolf Entertainment, is due to debut on Jan. 18 on NBC, streaming the next day on Peacock. The show, along with all other scripted series on broadcast, had their production schedules heavily impacted by the writers’ and actors’ strike that shutdown much of Hollywood for months and were only recently resolved. Given that, “Law & Order” and other scripted shows will be returning for abbreviated new seasons of 13 episodes to finish out the typical broadcast season ahead of the summer.
