Vita Kari defines the artistic side of TikTok through viral art performances – Celebrity News – Entertainment

TikTok star and performance artist Vita Kari is redefining the intersection of social media and fine art through viral performances and digital installations while advocating for accessibility and queer representation.

Kari, who has gained millions of followers across social platforms since 2022, combines traditional performance art with digital media to challenge artistic conventions.

“I think if there’s performance work it has to have certain things in the eyes of the academic space… I think all of that can be applied to a viral video,” Kari told Daily Express US.

The artist’s upcoming Art Basel Miami Beach installation will feature miniature bathrooms placed throughout Miami, highlighting urban accessibility issues.

“Access to bathrooms is something I think about a lot… for not just people with accessibility needs, but houselessness, a million reasons,” Kari explained.

Kari, who uses hearing aids, frequently advocates for disability awareness through her platform.

“The resources online weren’t as vast as I would hope for,” they said, regarding hearing loss representation.

Despite facing homophobic backlash after reaching mainstream audiences, Kari remains committed to visible queer representation.

“When you hit the mainstream of the internet, people are so transphobic and homophobic… But sometimes we just get the popcorn, sit on the couch and we’re like, ‘Dang, that’s crazy,'” they said.

The artist’s ambitious goal extends beyond social media fame.

“I would love to change the cannon of art history,” Kari said.

For emerging queer content creators, Kari offered encouraging advice.

“Once you start going viral and hit the mainstream, people will be saying some crazy stuff, but it’s just more engagement.”

Kari’s latest performance piece, ON THE WALL, was cut short by authorities on Labor Day after being taped to a facade on La Cienega Boulevard and Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.
