Ahoy there! It’s Nintendo Direct time – or it will be in just a couple of hours. What might Nintendo still have up its sleeve for Switch?
There’s a lot of chatter online about hopes for both F-Zero and Donkey Kong – could Nintendo still have new projects to announce?

No DLC for Tears of the Kingdom leaves the end of this year Zelda-free, though I wonder if Wind Waker/Twilight Princess might reappear further down the line, to help plug the long wait for an all-new Zelda.

Without wanting to bust any Silksong bubbles, Nintendo and Sony had shows on the same day previously around this time – it’s more to line up with Tokyo Games Show, which runs next week in Japan.

Today’s Nintendo Direct begins with Splatoon 3…
It’s a very futuristic Splatoon with a lot of numbers on screen! This is Side Order, part of the game’s Expansion Pass.
It’s repeatable content so you can play over and over – coming in spring 2024.
Mario vs Donkey Kong announced
And here’s your Donkey Kong game! It’s Mario vs Donkey Kong for Nintendo Switch.
It has co-op now! And it’s out February 16th 2024.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown time now, a game no one liked when it was announced via CGI trailer but which feels very good to actually play, people who have gone hands-on actually tell me.
Horizon Chase 2 is a racer from… Epic Games? Or published by Epic, anyway. But still stuck on Nintendo’s online servers.
Next up is Super Crazy Rhythm Castle, a Konami rhythm battle game out in November.
Super Mario RPG looks great – just a perfect mix of the old SNES visuals with proper 3D.
November 17th for Super Mario RPG! Mark that in your calendars.
Another Code: Two Memories headed to Switch
This was a DS classic! A really welcome surprise to see this return.
Another Code R, the sequel, is included too!
Now titled Another Code Recollection, the full package launches 19th January.
Princess Peach: Showtime detailed
A stage-set adventure, Peach uses a magic ribbon to attack and change into costumes which grant special abilities.
Peach with a rapier in a muskateer costume, Peach as a Sherlock Holmes-style murder investigator, Chef Peach, Kung Fu Peach…
This looks fun! And is better than the Peach emotion stuff the last time she got her own game.

Detective Pikachu 2 is the longest I’ve waited for the conclusion of a story I already saw in a movie.
To be fair the Detective Pikachu movie was pretty good until its story dropped all sense of internal logic in the last 20 minutes.

Look, F-Zero 99 is your F-Zero game for the next 10 years.
I thought that was decent, some nice things to look forward to for the Nintendo faithful even if we are definitely now in the remake/re-release/B-character-heavy part of Switch’s life.
And a bit of a push to clear out anything still hanging around the eShop not yet released.
BJive says: Wow, that was a disappointing Direct for me. Underwhelmed does not begin to describe my feelings. And yet again nothing on Metroid Prime (remasters or 4). Grrrr…
I think at this point you have to ask – do you still want a new Metroid Prime on eight year old hardware, or would you rather play it on something more capable?
The most interesting thing perhaps for me was that summer 2024 date for Luigi’s Mansion 2.
Either Switch 2 is later than summer or Nintendo is planning to overlap launches for systems in a way we’ve not seen since 3DS and GBA.
Most importantly, that Direct held my attention enough I still have some cookie left. I’m going to go eat that.
