It’s almost time for the 66th edition of the annual Grammy Awards, which honour outstanding achievement in the music industry.
When are the 2024 Grammy Awards?
Hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, the 2024 Grammys are to take place on Sunday 4 February 2024, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony will be aired on CBS and Paramount+ from 8pm ET/5pm PT. Music fans will also be able to enjoy additional Grammys content, including exclusive red-carpet interviews, on live.GRAMMY.com.
Noah, who is best known for his seven-year spell as host of the satirical news show The Daily Show, is returning for his fourth stint as Grammys host.
Who has been nominated for the Grammys?
The Recording Academy, which organises the Grammys, announced the nominees for the 2024 awards in November.
Singer SZA leads the way with nine awards nominations, followed by Phoebe Bridgers, Victoria Monét and Serban Ghenea, who picked up seven each. Jon Batiste, Boygenius, Brandy Clark, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff were all nominated six times.
A 12-time Grammy winner, Swift has become the first artist to be nominated for Song of the Year on seven occasions. What’s more, the 34-year-old is in contention for a record fourth Album of the Year gong.
Category changes ahead of 66th Grammys
Three new awards categories have been added to the line-up at the Grammys: Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Pop Dance Recording. “By introducing these three new categories, we are able to acknowledge and appreciate a broader array of artists,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr says.
The introduction of these awards comes as part of a set of “updates and amendments” to the Grammys that seek to make the awards “more fair, transparent and accurate”, according to Mason.
Among other changes brought in, two existing categories – Non-Classical Producer Of The Year and Non-Classic Songwriter Of The Year – have been moved into the general field of awards, allowing the entirety of the Grammys’ voting membership to vote on their winners.
Previously, the pair of accolades was housed in genre-specific fields, whose awards are not open to all Grammy voters.
Who will be performing at the 2024 Grammys?
The Recording Academy has been gradually revealing the artists who will be performing at Crypto.com Arena. So far, the confirmed acts are: Billie Eilish, Billy Joel, Burna Boy, Luke Combs, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo and Travis Scott. Further performers will be announced in the coming days.
