Who is John Lennon’s half-Japanese lookalike son, Sean Ono Lennon? Yoko Ono’s only kid with The Beatles star just released a song with Paul McCartney’s son James McCartney, called ‘Primrose Hill’

McCartney opened up about the new song in a post on Instagram: “I had a vision as a child in Scotland, on what was a lovely summer’s day. Letting go, I saw my true love and saviour in my mind’s eye. Primrose Hill is about getting the ball rolling with me and finding this person.” He said the song was co-written by his “good friend” Sean Ono Lennon.

It’s always heartwarming to see the children of our favourite celebs unite and find common ground, which in their case happens to be music, the very thing that their fathers loved and became icons for.

Here’s what we know about Sean Ono Lennon.

Sean Taro Ono Lennon, 48, was born in New York to his parents John Lennon, from The Beatles, and his wife Yoko Ono, a Japanese multimedia artist and singer. In a mum-son interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2017, Sean spoke up about the grief that they went through after losing John in 1980.

“We’d gone through the loss of my father together, so I witnessed her struggle, and then I saw her turn that struggle into art literally within a few months,” he told the publication. “I realised that art was a way of processing and understanding your experience.”

According to reports, John’s 1980 song “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)” was inspired by his son, Sean. However, in an interview with AP, Sean said the song “makes me feel like I’m infantilised or something”.

“People always play that song and look at me with a smile like, ‘Isn’t that sweet?’ I’m like, ‘Oh God, I’m an old man. I’m not some smiling baby in a baby food commercial,’” he explained. “To be honest, that song is touching to me, but as a musician and a songwriter and a producer, it’s sort of my least favourite song musically, because it’s so saccharine. Maybe it’s impossible for me to be objective about it.”

Like Paul McCartney’s son James, Sean has also followed in his dad John’s musical footsteps. As per The Guardian, he started his music career by making appearances on albums by his mum Ono, before joining the alternative rock band Cibo Matto and releasing several solo albums. These days, he is also recognised for his work behind the scenes as a songwriter and producer.

He recounted one incident when his sibling felt “overwhelming pressure” to attend Disney+’s The Beatles: Get Back preview in 2021, so he offered to go with him: “And I didn’t particularly want to go. But he said he felt obligated to go.”

Julian told Esquire: “So, because I love him so much, I said, ‘Listen, I’m coming with you. We’ll face the demons together.’ And it’s funny, because there’s always been, especially in the UK press, ‘Lennon sons feuding’ this, that. We’ve never had a fight in our life. It’s such bull.”

“The love for Sean, and the love for Yoko, and Stella, and Paul, and Mary, and Dhani, and Zak – it’s a big old, weird family. But as they say, families are always a bit screwed up,” he added.
