BAFTA has addressed the controversy surrounding the omission of Matthew Perry from the in-memoriam segment of the show. Perry passed away in October 2023 at 54, having been found unresponsive in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home. During the in-memoriam segment, which featured a rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Time After Time,’ Perry was nowhere to be found. Responding to online backlash, BAFTA confirmed that Perry will be honored at this year’s TV Awards ceremony. Perry, despite having starred in several feature films, was primarily known for playing Chandler Bing in the hit TV show ‘Friends.’ The actor was honored at the 2024 Emmy Awards with a stripped-back rendition of the ‘Friends’ theme song, sung by Charlie Puth.
