Xbox Gets Cheeky With New Deadpool Controller

Deadpool’s got back—and he’s not afraid to show it.

Today, Xbox announced it partnered with Marvel Entertainment’s resident Merc with a Mouth for an all-new wireless controller pegged to the release of Deadpool and Wolverine on July 26.

Modeled after Deadpool’s unmistakable assets, the aptly named Cheeky Controller firmly establishes Ryan Reynolds’ alter ego as the most well-rounded character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And you can bet that’ll give Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine plenty more viral marketing to snarl about.

But fans can’t get a grip on this custom exclusive via brick-and-mortar stores or online outlets. Instead, the Cheeky Controller is only attainable by entering a global sweepstakes as outlined on Xbox Wire. Short version: Follow Xbox’s X account, repost the official sweepstakes post and wait until Aug. 11 to see if you’ve won.

Even if you miss out on this particular pair, Xbox has other character-specific hardware for entrants, most notably a Series X console that sports Deadpool’s red-and-black costume, and foam replicas of Bea and Arthur—his two-of-a-kind katana blades.

Starting July 22, the first 1,000 fans who visit the Microsoft Store to buy an Elite Controller Series 2 Core will score an exclusive Cable Guys Deadpool Controller Holder from EXG Pro.

The Xbox campaign is part of Disney and Marvel’s full-court marketing press for Deadpool and Wolverine. The team-up between the two onscreen anti-heroes (and off-screen pals) is designed to the get the MCU back on track after a tepid fan response to the most recent run of Marvel movies.
